PLF Reviews breaks Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula into its four phases — pre-prelaunch, prelaunch with three pieces of content, a 4–7 day open cart and the post-launch — and maps the nine mental triggers from Launch to each step.
A true story about one step at a time: Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan

Helen Keller lost her sight and hearing at 19 months. In 1887 a 20-year-old teacher, Anne Sullivan, began spelling words into her hand. For weeks nothing seemed to work. Then, with one of Helen’s hands under running water, Anne spelled w-a-t-e-r into the other, and Helen understood. She went on to graduate from Radcliffe in 1904.
Every big result is built from small, ordered steps — and a breakthrough usually comes right after the point where most people would quit. The steps below are how the Product Launch Formula orders the work of a launch. Read the full story: Helen Keller: the word ‘water’.
The Product Launch Formula in One Picture
Jeff Walker’s launch strategy has four phases: pre-prelaunch, prelaunch, launch (open cart) and post-launch. Each phase has a specific job, and together they move a prospect from “never heard of you” to “can’t wait to buy.”
Step 0: Foundations (Before Any Launch)
- Avatar: a detailed picture of the one person you serve.
- Transformation: the result they get, in one sentence.
- Offer: the format, what’s included, price, guarantee and deadline.
- List: an email list you own, however small.
- Tools: email, a way to share content (video or otherwise) and a checkout.
Step 1: The Pre-Prelaunch
Goal: gauge interest, prime the market and gather objections.
- Ask your audience a question about their biggest challenge.
- Hint that you’re working on something to help.
- Group the responses into themes — these become your prelaunch topics and objection-handling content.
Step 2: The Prelaunch (PLC1, PLC2, PLC3)
Goal: give real value and build anticipation, trust and desire.
- PLC1 — Opportunity: why this matters and what’s possible.
- PLC2 — Transformation: teach something useful; deliver a quick win.
- PLC3 — Ownership experience: show life after the transformation; handle objections; preview the offer.

Step 3: The Launch (Open Cart)
Goal: make a clear, honest offer and help people decide.
- Cart open: send the offer and the sales video or page.
- Middle of the cart: answer objections, share stories, FAQs and early-buyer reactions.
- Close: reminders as the deadline approaches. Many sales happen in the final hours.
Step 4: The Post-Launch
Goal: deliver, delight and prepare the next launch.
- Onboard buyers with an excellent experience.
- Send value to non-buyers — they’re future customers.
- Debrief: numbers, objections, what to improve.
The mental triggers behind each PLF step
| Trigger | Where it shows up in the launch |
|---|---|
| Authority | Prelaunch content demonstrates expertise |
| Reciprocity | Free, genuinely valuable PLCs |
| Trust | Consistent communication over days |
| Anticipation | Release dates and countdowns |
| Likability | Your story, personality and honesty |
| Events & rituals | The launch itself as a scheduled event |
| Community | Comments, questions, shared experience |
| Social proof | Testimonials, comments, case studies |
| Scarcity | A real open-cart deadline or limited spots |
Is PLF a “Funnel”?
People often search for the Jeff Walker funnel. Technically, a PLF launch is a funnel: people opt in, consume content and receive an offer. But unlike a typical always-on funnel, a PLF launch is a time-bound event with a clear beginning and end, designed around anticipation and community. Many businesses combine both — a launch to create a spike, then an evergreen version to keep selling.
| Typical sales funnel | PLF launch | |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | Always on | Scheduled event |
| Content | Lead magnet + emails | Sequenced prelaunch content |
| Urgency | Often artificial timers | Real cart close |
| Engagement | Mostly one-way | Comments, community, live sessions |
Jeff Walker Launch Plan Template (Simplified)
| Phase | Typical length | Key actions |
