PLF Reviews covers the JV (joint-venture) launch, the Product Launch Formula play Jeff Walker teaches for scaling: partners and affiliates send their audiences to your prelaunch content, and you pay them a commission on every sale.
A true story about the partners who say yes: Howard Schultz

To open his first coffee bar, Howard Schultz approached 242 investors. According to his biography, 217 said no. The 25 who said yes were enough to open Il Giornale in 1986 — and two years later he bought Starbucks’ retail business for $3.8 million.
A JV launch in the Product Launch Formula is built on the same truth: you don’t need every partner to say yes. You need a few aligned partners who believe in your offer. Read the full story: Howard Schultz: 217 investors said no.
A JV launch is an internal launch that partners promote to their own lists.
It multiplies reach, but it only works once your offer has proven it converts. Partners promote launches that make them money.
How a JV launch works
The sequence is the same as an internal launch — pre-prelaunch, PLC1, PLC2, PLC3, open cart, close. The difference is traffic. Each partner gets a tracking link and emails or posts your prelaunch content to their audience. When a buyer purchases within the attribution window, the partner earns a commission.
Jeff Walker’s own business works this way. The Launch Masterclass you can join every week is promoted by affiliates (including this site), each with their own tracked link, and Product Launch Formula pays commissions on the sales they refer.
Real JV launch numbers
The clearest public example is Matthew Woodward. In his Product Launch Formula review (updated May 30, 2026), he reports that his first launch made $134,171 in six days to his own audience, and that a later JV launch with affiliates brought in an additional $128,894, for a combined $263,065. That order matters: internal first, JV second.
When you’re ready for a JV launch
- You’ve run at least one successful internal launch and know your conversion rate.
- You have real testimonials that partners can see.
- Your prelaunch content works — partners will judge it before they promote.
- You can handle the volume — support, delivery, refunds.
If any of these is missing, a Partner launch can damage relationships: partners who send traffic to a launch that doesn’t convert rarely come back.
Recruiting partners for a JV launch
- Start with relationships, not cold pitches. Peers you’ve helped, podcast hosts you’ve appeared with, communities you’re active in.
- Show your numbers. Opt-in rate, conversion rate, refund rate and earnings per click from your internal launch.
- Make promotion easy. Ready-made emails, social posts, images and a clear calendar.
- Run a leaderboard or prizes carefully. Many Joint-venture launches reward top partners; keep the rules transparent.
- Pay on time. Reputation decides your next JV launch.
JV launches and the FTC disclosure rules
In the United States, affiliates must disclose their relationship with the seller. The Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255) require a clear and conspicuous disclosure when a material connection — such as a commission — exists. Give partners disclosure language with your swipe copy. PLF Reviews follows the same rule: see our affiliate disclosure.
JV launch vs. internal launch
| Internal launch | JV launch | |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic | Your list | Your list + partners’ lists |
| Revenue | 100% yours | Minus partner commissions |
| Control | Full | Shared with partners |
| Risk | Low | Higher — reputations involved |
| Best time | Early | After a proven internal launch |
Common JV launch mistakes
- Recruiting partners before proving the offer.
- Weak swipe copy that partners have to rewrite.
- Unclear commission terms — Yaro Starak’s account of his 2007 launch shows how vague profit-share promises create problems.
- Missing disclosures in partner promotions.
